Mrs Bush welcomes you to Year 3, St Bernadette!

Class Teacher

Mrs Bush

Welcome to Year Three! We are so pleased that you have taken time to look at our page. In it you will find lots of information about Year Three. We have the support of Miss Griffin and our student teacher Mrs Lowman in our class this year.

Autumn Term

We have some exciting learning in our Autumn Term and we can't wait to get started on our Key Stage 2 journey. We start with Science by learning all about the human body and how we move and keep healthy. We also learn all about light with lots of fun experiments. Then we have Geography where we are learning more about maps and what they tell us about places in the world. This is followed by History where we will learn all about Ancient Egypt - pharaohs, mummies, pyramids ... there is so much to explore; at this point we will also go on a school trip to the museum in Liverpool. Our Art topic focuses on structure and we will be using card to create some familiar buildings inspired by The Eiffel Tower! We will end the term with DT where our topic is cooking and we will be making bread.

Spring Term

In Science we have lots of investigation work to do as we learn about plants. We move on to Geography where we learn ore about the world focusing on the different hemispheres. We will explore what it is like to live in each hemisphere and what it is like to work there. We go further back in time in the Spring Term - back to the Stone Age with a topic that is a firm favourite! In our History topic we will consider what it was like to live in the Stone age - they didn't have X-boxes or Playstations!! Cezanne and his still life work is the inspiration for our art topic before we move onto DT where we will be revisiting and improving our sewing skills.

Summer Term

Rocks and Forces and Magnets will be our Science areas of enquiry this term. In Geography we learn about extreme weather conditions including volcanos and earthquakes which is a very exciting topic. We might even make our own mini volcanoes! In History we will study the Romans and their invasion. Through this study we will be learning more about what life was like in Britain during the Roman invasion and how it changed our lives. We will definitely paint our own volcanoes when we study warm colours and the volcano art of William Turner. In D.T. we make our very own Roman Catapults using wood and saws! In this term we will have our very first overnight trip - camping on the school field!

English texts and learning will focus around the topics above, giving the children an immersive experience and chance to deepen their understanding across the curriculum.

 Timetable

PE

Our new exciting P.E. curriculum will take place on a Wednesday and Thursday.. The children need their P.E. kits in school in a bag on a Wednesday and they need to wear their P.E. kit to school on a Thursday, black/navy joggers/shorts, the school logo PE shirt and school jumpers. Indoor or outdoor shoes to be brought in each week depending on the topic. Earrings will not be allowed in for PE. If your child is unable to take out their own earrings, then please take them out before school. Children with earrings will not be allowed to take part in the PE sessions and we don't want anyone to miss out.

On a Tuesday we will continue to have expert music tuition from In Harmony.  We will be developing our musical skills through class violin tuition and Orchestra sessions.
