Forest School

Welcome to the homepage of St. Augustine's Forest School!

Originally a Scandinavian idea, Forest School operates on the principle that children of all ages can benefit from hands-on learning in a woodland environment. This child-led approach to learning encourages the development of:

  • Independence
  • Responsibility
  • Resilience
  • Self-confidence
  • Perseverance
  • Communication and social skills

Our Forest School Sessions

Our Forest School sessions last around 1 ½ hours.  Forest school activities can include a variety of outdoor games, crafts, den building, using fires to cook and learning how to use a different range of tools. We also learn how to take care and protect our Forest school area.

What to wear for Forest School

“There is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing!”

Forest school sessions will run no matter what the weather. Children need to have suitable outdoor clothing.

Winter - trousers, jumper with top underneath, coat, gloves, hat and wellies

Summer - trousers, jumper with top underneath, waterproof coat, sun hat, sun cream and wellies. They will also need a water bottle.

If you have any questions about Forest School please contact Mrs Rowe, our Forest School Leader, via the School Office.
