Catholic Social Teaching at St Augustine's

Catholic Social Teaching is founded in Scripture and includes statements and letters written by Church leaders. It offers wisdom and insights on living the Gospel in today’s world. Jesus tells us to love God and to love our neighbours, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. We use Catholic Social Teaching principles to guide our children in ways that can work as the hands of Christ, and make a difference here and across the globe.

Our Catholic Social teaching values are:

Life and Dignity of the Human Person:

We are beautifully made in the image and likeness of God. Every person's life and dignity must be respected and supported.

Call to Family, Community and Participation

We all have the right and duty to participate fully in society. Every person has a right to participate in society and a corresponding duty to work for the Common Good. Marriage and family are the foundations for social life and should be strengthened and supported.

Solidarity and Peace

God created us as one global family, called to support our brothers and sisters. We are one  human family and loving our neighbour includes our pursuit of justice and peace  across the world.

Dignity of Work

Everyone should be able to provide for themselves and their family through work. Work is more than a way to make a living; it is is a form of continuing participation in God's creation. We must protect and respect the basic right of workers.

Rights and Responsibilities

Everyone has a right to the conditions for living a decent life. Everyone has a fundamental right to life; food, health care, housing, education and employment.

Option for the Poor and Vulnerable

The needs of the poor and the vulnerable should be put first. A fundamental measure of our society is how e care for and stand with our poor and vulnerable brothers and sisters. Scripture teaches that this is our primary concern.

Care for God's Creation

We are guardians of God's creation, living sustainably and enhancing the well-being of the planet. God has entrusted  his word to us and we show our respect to Him, by care for His creations for generations to come.

Pope Francis' letter to the world, is a reminder that we have duty to take care of God's creation and protect it for future generations.
