Year 5 Class Work

Please have a look at these page regularly to look at the work that the children have been completing in lessons.

English Work

In English lessons, we have been looking at figurative language. We then spent some time writing different types of poems using this figurative language. One of the poems that we wrote were Greek Odes. Children chose a Greek object and had to describe it like it was the best thing in the world using hyperboles, similes, metaphors and personification. We have taken some photographs of our Greek Odes, please read them below.

Topic Lessons - Ancient Greece

The children have been completing lots of art-based activities with Mrs Campion, below you can see some images from them making Greek pots, where the images on the pot tell a story. When completed, they will be going on display around school and later on in the year, children will be able to take these home.

They will soon be making soap sculptures, so keep an eye out for photographs of these.

Healthy Eating Session with Mr Kelter

Mr Kelter completed  a different type of PE lesson today, Year 5 were looking at healthy eating and breakfast choices. Children were discussing the importance of having a good breakfast to start the day and the impact this will have on your body and work in school.

Children also explored the nutritional values of the cereals especially the sugar content. Children ordered the cereals from the lowest sugar content to the highest, there were some surprises for the children. They now have some understanding of what they need to look for when shopping and hopefully they will make some healthier choices on the cereal they eat for breakfast.

Thanks Mr Kelter!

Year 5 Library Trip

Year 5 spent some time in the library, they were all given library cards and all got to choose a book to read at home.

All books needed to be returned by 21st November, if you have still got a library book at home, please return it to the library where you can choose another one to read. The more books you read the better your writing will be.

Also, make sure you are reading a range of books, you can borrow up to 20 books, if you update your library card to a full card (speak to the staff in the library on how to do this), you can also use the computers for homework and also borrow DVDs.

Please see the library website for more detail

Play for a Day - Space The Final Frontier

On Friday 20th October, Year 5 took part in Play for a Day. Children spent the day learning a play about space with a drama teacher and then they performed the play for parents and the rest of the school in the afternoon. The children really enjoyed the opportunity to do this and worked hard throughout the day.

Well done Year 5, we have some actors and actresses in the making.

Year 5 Space Launch Day

Please see the slideshow below to see some of the images from the Year 5 Launch Day. Children were required to use 'junk' to create spacecrafts. Children were also required to research a famous astronaut and produce a set of instructions on how to wash your hair and clean your teeth in space.
