Welcome to Year 2
A warm welcome to the Autumn term in Year 2 where our learning centres around our topic theme 'Castle Capers'.
Already this term we have read many books linked to our theme including The Frog Prince, Rapunzel and Zog which led us to describing some very weird and wonderful dragons. We have begun our learning about the 'Great Fire of London' which will lead us later into landmarks and exploring London as it is today.
Our art has seen us create crowns, castle woven wall hangings and looking carefully at the art of Paul Klee and how he uses colour to create shape and mood.
Maths is focused on place value, tens and ones, partitioning, number bonds, addition and subtraction as we identify the most effective strategies to use and apply in a range of contexts.
Everyday Materials and Their Uses is our Science this term. We learn scientific skills such as enquiry, pattern seeking and how to ask good questions about the results we gather from our many experiments with materials, how they change shape and what properties they have.
In God's Story we have enjoyed many stories from the Old Testament and thought about the important messages we can take into our own lives to enhance our spiritual growth further. Look out for the Year 2 prayer bag coming home so you can share in prayerful times as a family.
We Had a wonderful day at Stafford Castle with our Year 1 friends. Take a look at our slideshow for some of the things we experienced. Lilah was our leader as we decided she was the loudest and she led us to the centre of the castle. Afterwards, we made coins, tried on armour and even held swords and crossbows! There were some sleepy heads on the bus on the way home that's for sure.
