Welcome to Year 2
A warm welcome to the Spring term in Year 2 where our learning centres around our topic theme 'Animal Adventurers'.
Already this term we have read many books linked to our theme including Argghh Spider, Monkey Puzzle, Rosie's Walk and Tuesday by the fabulous David Wiesner. We have begun our learning about significant individuals in history including Mary Anning and Florence Nightingale which will link to our writing too.
Our art has already seen us create animal patterns and prints, fossil sketches as well as using different materials to create our own fossils.
We will be learning about the themes linked to Chinese New Year including the willow tree pattern and the intriguing story behind it as well as painting cherry blossoms using pointillism and learning about the country, people and landmarks.
Maths is focused on place value, multiplication, division, fractions, times tables and time as we identify the most effective strategies to use and apply in a range of contexts as well as improve our mental maths for quick recall.
Animals Including Humans and Living Things and their Habitats are our Science foci for this term. We learn scientific skills such as enquiry, pattern seeking and how to ask good questions about the results we gather from our many experiments. We also look at the various life cycles, the importance of keeping healthy and habitats across the world and the factors needed for survival.
Our DT project will link to our habitats learning so please save a shoe box so we can create our 'wind-up' jungle!
In God's Story we take a closer look at the liturgical calendar and further explore some important Sacraments that bring us closer to God and being part of His family. We also start out preparation for lent and think about the positive changes we can make in our lives. Look out for the Year 2 prayer bag coming home so you can share in prayerful times as a family.
We Had a wonderful day at Stafford Castle with our Year 1 friends. Take a look at our slideshow for some of the things we experienced. Lilah was our leader as we decided she was the loudest and she led us to the centre of the castle. Afterwards, we made coins, tried on armour and even held swords and crossbows! There were some sleepy heads on the bus on the way home that's for sure.
