Our learning 2016 - 2017
Nursery have been making the most of the recent warm weather. We have been using different materials to make our own dens to create shelter from the sun. We also made sure we stayed safe in the sun using our sun hats and sun cream when accessing the outdoor area.
Here are some of the activities we have been using to practice our reading, from buried treasure to reading the words on our bananas before snack.

This half term we were given the task of caring for chicks, we watched them hatch and grow then even visited the chickens and many other animals at the farm.

World Book Day
As a school we celebrated world book day by dressing up as a character from a story or book. We were then lucky enough to have year 6 join us to share one of these stories with us.
Spring 2 Curriculum letter
We have had lots of fun learning all about bears. We explored the three bears cottage, investigated and solved our very own crime! Then had a teddy bears picnic which we invited parents along to, they even watched and helped us to learn.
The Day it snowed.
In early years we are outside whatever the weather, the children enjoyed working together to build their own snowman.

Christmas in EYFS
Christmas is such a magical time for children we have celebrated the season in a variety of ways with the children. Through our EYFS nativity, creating snowmen with different foods for the PTFA stall, Posting letters to Santa with the help of our class elf Jingle, having our own Christmas jumper day, having a Christmas dinner and even having a visit from Santa Claus.
Nursery spotted a Digger outside. It sparked lots of conversation about safety, looking after things and peoples jobs or occupations.
The whole school completed a retreat day with One Life Music called 'We Will Go Out'. Here are a few pictures of us singing in class, we particularly enjoyed the actions. Join us for our Celebration Achievement each Friday and you may hear some of the songs we learnt.
As part of our topic we have had a Shoe Shop role play area in class. The children have used their mathematical skills to measure feet, describe the shoes and use play money to pay for them at the till.
The Nursery class learnt all about Remembrance Sunday. We used different materials during our continuous provision to create our own poppy and completed our own prayer time and reflection.
Here are a few pictures of the independent activities available for the children to access, inside of the classroom this week.
We will begin by discussing Autumn Celebrations, such as Diwali and Bonfire Night.
Children will be given the opportunity to practice their fine motor skills by picking the stars from the glitter. They will be able to practice their mark making skills by writing in the gloop and the children will be practicing their reading and storytelling skills this week through retelling the story of ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’.

Our visit to Meir Library
We were invited by the library to join them for a story telling session. We took the children and some of their parents and carers down to the library for a story. The children had lots of fun and even joined in with the story telling.
Officer McTrusty visited the Nursery
As part of our topic of we had the pleasure of welcoming Officer McTrusty to St Augustine’s. He came into class to talk with us and show us some of his equipment, which we tried on, we even went outside to look at his police car.
